EmploymentGroup Innovates Staffing Business with Personality Assessment Staffing Software Module from VCG

Personality and cognitive evaluation tool helps gauge the “fit” between job applicants and companies, enabling staffing firm to deliver a measurably better candidate

In the hotly contested staffing market of the Midwest, EmploymentGroup, with 16 offices across three states, has carved out a unique position. So unique, in fact, that in the first quarter of 2008, while the staffing industry as a whole suffered a two percent decline in gross revenues, EmploymentGroup enjoyed a 32 percent growth in sales.

The newest tool used in EmploymentGroup’s system for better talent acquisition and management is called SuccessCheck, a Web-based personality and cognitive assessment software module from leading staffing software vendor VCG of Roswell, Georgia.

SuccessCheck is a 'success predictor' that evaluates a person's general intellectual, emotional, ethical and personality suitability or 'fit' for a particular job or position based on sophisticated psychometric personality profiling. The module enables EmploymentGroup to pre-screen candidates prior to the personal interview stage or performs costly background checks and skills testing. SuccessCheck does away with subjective employee ratings that might impact a candidate’s likely placement and reduces possible liability and risk. The result is that candidates are selected based on objective measures and their potential to succeed in the position.

Miller says, “SuccessCheck is one piece of the employee selection puzzle. It helps our recruiters spend more quality time with the right people so that we can help them succeed. At the same time, SuccessCheck eliminates the time our staff might have spent on reviewing and processing applicants that we may not have been able to help.”

Hofrichter pointed out that on-the-job performance, job satisfaction and employee turnover are all closely entwined. “Since implementing SuccessCheck our turnover is both lower and more stable. In fact, EmploymentGroup’s turnover is now one-third of the national average.” This in itself is an amazing performance achievement as the national average for staffing firms was 284 percent in 2007 according to a survey conducted by the American Staffing Association.

Another benefit to EmploymentGroup’s customers and employees is SuccessCheck’s expanded job-matching capability. Hofrichter says, “SuccessCheck gives us the ability to find candidates for jobs that they didn’t originally apply for, based on their assessment testing. This helps us broaden the type of jobs that a candidate may be successfully placed in with less effort on our part.”

Importantly, while EmploymentGroup has added a strong service differentiator and benefit for its customers and employees, it has done so without adding to the workload of its own staff. SuccessCheck is integrated with the EmploymentGroup Web site and its staffing operations software, StaffSuite, also from VCG. This enables potential employees and candidates to take assessment tests anywhere at any time. Results from the SuccessCheck assessments are automatically included in the candidate/employee record for review, search, job matching and placement. SuccessCheck even provides recruiters with suggested questions to use during the applicant interview process based on an applicant’s assessment results.

“We’ve found that having SuccessCheck actually increases the effectiveness of our internal staff,” says Miller. “Staffing coordinators are learning to use traits identified in the assessments to help fill orders that fit customer requirements better.
